FIRE, HAMMER & DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD (Jer 23:29 & Heb 4:12)

Psalm 119: 105 -- Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

The soul has its tastes as well as the body. Our relish for the word of God will be greatest, when that for the world and the flesh is least. The way of the world is a wrong way; and the more understanding we get by the precepts of God, the more rooted will be our hatred of sin; and the more ready we are in the Scriptures, the better furnished we are with answers to temptation.

Make obedience to the law of God the greatest aim of life...  Avoidance of worldly culture is both the effect and means of increasing in divine knowledge. (A beautiful study is found in Romans 8:5-8).

If you want to read only little in the Bible, then you MUST READ John 6:63. FIRE, HAMMER & SWORD!

Prov 3:1-2 - My child, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of life and abundant welfare they will give you.

Let your heart keep the commandments as the ark kept the two tablets of the law put into it; it denotes a cordial affection for the commandments and ordinances of Christ, a hearty attention and obedience to them, and a constant and cheerful observance of them, flowing from love and gratitude to Him, John 14:15.

The WOG shows that it is not human sagacity or the prudence of man which imparts wisdom. Neither is it the ardent desire for prosperity and happiness, manifesting itself in crooked ways; but it is the fear of God and subjection to His Word which guide us safely through a world of wickedness.

If you want to read only little in the Bible, then you MUST READ 1Tim 4:8. FIRE, HAMMER & SWORD!

Rom 1:16 --For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

This pre-supposes that some were ashamed of the Gospel, though the apostle was not! People should be ashamed of crime and folly. They should be ashamed of their own offences, and of the follies of their conduct. But they should not be ashamed of what is right, and of what will contribute to their welfare. Where do we stand?

The Apostle had so firm a conviction of the value and truth of the Gospel; he had experienced so much of its consolations; and had seen so much of its efficacy; that he was so far from being ashamed of it that he gloried in it as the power of God unto salvation.

If you want to read only little in the Bible, then you MUST READ 1Cor 1: 18. FIRE, HAMMER & SWORD!

Jer 13:17 --But if you will not listen, my soul will weep in secret for your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock has been taken captive.

"My soul will weep in secret, for your PRIDE".... Our disobedience can cause such an effect!!!  Tears flowing out in great abundance, being, as he wished his eyes might be, a fountain of tears to weep night and day (Jer 9:1).

We are a people that the Lord takes interest in, therefore, it was to the loss of his honour and interest that we should be given into the hands of the enemy, and be taken captive, because of our disobedience (if you will not listen!)... and this fact troubles him to the core.

If you want to read only little in the Bible, then you MUST READ Prov 28:9. FIRE, HAMMER & SWORD!

Col 3: 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.

Many have the Word, but it dwells in them poorly; it has no power over them. The soul prospers, when we are full of the Scriptures and of the grace of Christ. The WOG should be searched into, carefully attended to, diligently read, and frequently meditated upon; because the WOG is able, under a divine blessing, to furnish with all spiritual wisdom, or to make men wise unto salvation.  When we sing psalms, we must be transformed by what we sing.

Remember, the Bible on your book-shelf will not protect you. God's Word becomes a sword when you speak it aloud through your mouth, in faith.

If you want to read only little in the Bible, then you MUST READ James 1:21. FIRE, HAMMER & SWORD!

Jer 7: 23-24 --  But this command I gave them, "Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk only in the way that I command you, so that it may be well with you." Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but, in the stubbornness of their evil will, they walked in their own counsels, and looked backward rather than forward.

God says that obedience is required of us. Hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord your God. The promise is very encouraging. Let God's will be your rule, and his favour shall be your happiness. Let us not forget that God is displeased with disobedience.

This implies that personal sufferings are from perverseness due to disobedience to the Word of God.

If you want to read only little in the Bible, then you MUST READ John 15:7. FIRE, HAMMER & SWORD!

Psalm 119: 165 --Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.

The heart that lives on the will of God will be calm and steadfast, and ennobled into reposeful tranquillity like that which it grasps and grapples.

Little boats which are fixed to the sides of a ship rise and fall with the tide, as does the ship to which they are attached. And our hearts, if they be roped to the fleeting, the visible, the created things, the finite, will partake of their fluctuations, and finally will be involved in the destruction of that which we are attached to. And contrary to this, they who love that which is eternal, will shine with a light thrown by reflection from the object of their love, and ‘he that does the will of God abides for ever.’ (1John 2:17).

If you want to read only little in the Bible, then you MUST READ John 6.68. FIRE, HAMMER & SWORD!

Jer 15:16 -- Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart; for I am called by your name, O LORD, God of hosts.

“Your words were found”--just as a man, on digging in the ground, might find beyond his hopes, a treasure there, one of greater price than any he was looking for... When we find the Word of God, we find also our duty and calling. We make a grand discovery of the will of God concerning us.

The WOG becomes food-- let us “inwardly digest them.”  That is... converting the Word of God into wholesome nourishment. The Word is thus “hid in the heart,” as the food we eat is in the body, and becomes, as it were, a part of us--the very life blood of the soul.  A noble testimony to the efficacy of God’s Word is "joy and delight of the heart".

I am called by your name - i. e., Every Christian is consecrated to God's service, and ordained to be His disciple to proclaim the good news.
